Basic Handgun Class

Are you new to shooting? Did you shoot once in the desert? Do you want to be safe with a semi-automatic pistol? This is the class for you!

The Basic Handgun class is for the first-time shooter just starting out. Students will learn safe handling practices, universal safety rules, basic handgun marksmanship, range etiquette and will be escorted through the process with close supervision.

Ammunition and the firearm will be provided for the class. Eye and ear protection are available for purchase at the range.


Women’s Basic Handgun Class

Taught by a woman for women to build confidence in learning to safely handle and fire a handgun in a fun and safe environment. Class cost includes instruction, handgun rental, ammunition and target.

In this introduction module, Erica Duane introduces students to the basics of handgun safety, including how to safely clear (unload) a semi-automatic pistol. Erica goes on to explain and demonstrate the seven basic fundamentals for safe and accurate shooting. The lesson is rounded out by taking those basics and putting them into practice both in the classroom and on the shooting range. This lesson will act as a building block as the student progresses to Women’s Intermediate Pistol.

Ammunition and the firearm will be provided for the class. Eye and ear protection are available for purchase at the range.


Holster Draw Class

The Draw from an Open Holster Course and Concealed Holster Course is for shooters that wish learn how to safely draw from an open holster using our 5-Step Technique, and to obtain the ability to draw from the holster when you use the range at Evan’s Gun World. Please note: In order to execute these methods on the range you must be a member of Evans Gun World but not required to take the courses.

  • Prior shooting experience is required.
  • Kydex holster and belt required.
    • Inside and/or outside waistband
  • Current Evan’s Gun World Members that successfully complete the class will be allowed to holster draw on the tactical side.

Red Dot Class

Miniature Red Dot Sights (RDS) on pistols have become increasingly popular among law enforcement professionals and defense-minded citizens—and for good reason. When properly set up and used, RDS-equipped pistols offer significant advantages over traditional iron sights. However, these advantages come with unique challenges that must be addressed through training and maintenance interventions. This one-day course is designed to teach students how to effectively set up, maintain, and operate a pistol-mounted red dot sight.

This one-day course is designed to teach students how to effectively set up, maintain, and operate a pistol-mounted red dot sight. Topics include:

  • Proper RDS setup and zeroing
  •  Inspection and maintenance procedures
  • Environmental considerations
  • Core marksmanship fundamentals specific to RDS use
  • Rapid dot acquisition and recoil tracking 
  • Presentations from ready positions and the holster
  • Manipulation techniques under stress and more

There are no formal prerequisites, but students should have a solid understanding of basic pistol operation and range safety. A pistol equipped with a red dot sight is required, along with:

  • A quality holster
  • Three spare magazines
  • Magazine pouches
  • A sturdy gun belt
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Minimum 300 rounds of reliable ammunition
